Hard Drive – Although a standard 160 GB hard disk should suffice for a student, those fond of movies and music would do better to go for a laptop that has a bigger hard drive.

RAM Size – Bigger RAM means faster processing. Some operating systems work well even with 1GB of RAM, but others like Vista or Win 7 would need at least 2GB.

Processor – The choice of a processor would depend on the type of work would do. AMD and Intel are the best in the business. Also go for a processor with speeds on less than 2 GHz.

Weight – It is natural that as you need to carry it with you, the lighter it is the better.

Cost – You need to do some market research here and see which of the brands is offering the best features without any compromise on quality. </S

Got to game

I’ve been a computer games addict ever since the family room at our local pub got one of those table Space Invaders machines in the 1980s. All through PacMan, the ZX Spectrum, Atari and original Game Boy to the Wii, the Kinect innovation and r4i cards. I’ll even admit to a bit of online gaming in fantasy worlds, though I usually leave my character to their own devices for far too long and come back to find them dead…
Kinect is probably the best thing to happen to computer games since someone thought “Wouldn’t it be great if you could carry your games machine around in your pocket…” And the best thing is that games manufacturers have really gone to town with ideas for how to use it in ever increasingly bizarre games and situations. Whereas the Wii focused on its fitness angle, the Kinect games you can get online all seem to be about fun!
Would you believe there is even talk of “Adults Only” Kinect games, where you use your controller to get up to sexy, after dark activities. I did double check to make sure that story didn’t appear on April Fool’s Day, but the concept seems genuine. You could end up being able to choose from a range of dirty Kinect games on the Ann Summer’s website! At least we have the internet for these kind of purchases – not that I make a lot of them, obviously. I can’t imagine how guys coped before when they had to actually go into adult shops; that must have lead to some embarrassing situations. The worst that can happen these days is when someone forgets what they’ve ordered and opens up their package at the breakfast table in front of the wife and kids…

What do you buy the guy who has everything?

As the (very) old punch line goes; a course of penicillin! But seriously, all the guys in my life are such gadget addicts that it’s becoming tough to buy them something original and fun when their birthdays and Christmas roll around. Luckily there are lots of websites out there that seem to cater to this twenty-something male who enjoys electronics, retro sweets and “Loaded” humour. But that still doesn’t answer the question of what to buy.
Well, my boyfriend seems to have developed a man crush on retro t-shirts; often taking old slogans or advertising logos and giving them a modern (and usually offensive) twist. He particularly liked the Space Invaders shirt that I bought him which had some kind of sensor and responded to drumbeats by flickering in time with the music. The LED light bulbs used in the design were so small and light, you hardly notice the extra size or weight.
One of the best gifts for a guy is the emergency charger. After all, empty any bloke’s pockets (with his permission first, obviously) and you’ll find mobile phones, personal computers, MP3 players, even games consoles or e-readers like Kindles, these days. They all take a lot of juice and a lot of organising to keep them charged. Imagine the horror of running out of power while on a day or a night out?? That’s where the battery-powered emergency charger comes in, with attachments to fit all makes of mobiles and other gadgets. OK, it’s not going to keep you powered for long, but it might just keep you charged up long enough to send that vital text…
