The Birkenstock Conunmdrum
Shoes, shoes, more shoes, and then just to make a change, even more shoes. Shoes are on many people’s minds at the moment, namely because of how much the prices on the high street have gone up. Yet a quick skip into the online world of shoe sales and the story suddenly changes. Gone are the mark ups and misleading advertising, in come the more cost effective prices and a range that no high street store could match. For shoe shoppers, online shopping is the way to go.

What type of shoes do you need?
One of the first questions shoppers have to ask themselves is what do they want? Are you in the market for a new pair of high heels? Perhaps you need a replacement pair of sandals for the pair you wrecked on holiday this year? Winter is on its way so do you need a solid pair of insulated boots to help see you through the cold? Whatever it is you’re after, 99 times out of a 100 you’ll be able to find it online faster then you ever could trotting up and down the high street.
This year Birkenstock shoes have become increasingly popular. Owing a large part of their success to the quality of shoe they make, Birkenstock’s have been selling well both online and offline, but it is the online shopping market that have really boosted the sales. Now users can simply find the pair of boots or sandals they want from a website and simply one-click order their size and before you know it, the shoes will wend their way to the front door within a few days.
If Birkenstocks aren’t what you are after then you can find almost anything else online including other well known brands like Clarks. One of the oldest shoe makers and retailers in history has reported increases rather then decreases in sales in 2011. For an economy that is supposed to be faltering, this is positive news and shows that people aren’t as afraid to buy as politicians and the stock exchanges make out. Of course the online shopping craze has a lot to do with this.
Where do I go to find these shoes?
It isn’t as hard as you would initially think to find the right shoes for the right price. Since 2008 the high street has struggled to gain traction with increasing overheads as compared to the online world. Many well-known retailers have made fatal mistakes and are no longer around. By making hundreds of people redundant not realising that service levels and standards would drop as a result, recognised brands have simply disappeared from the market and several more are struggling. The online market has taken advantage of this lack of foresight and has offered customers what they want for the price they want. And all of this is delivered with the highest of service standards in mind.
So where are the best sites to buy my shoes from?
There are a number of quality online retailers who can give you the shoes you want, and oddly enough some of them are not amongst the leading high street names. Zalando are fast becoming renowned for offering customers every shoe they need for a minimum of cost and fuss. Such is their confidence and satisfaction rating; they don’t even charge for shipping. Name me another online shoe retailer who can boast even just that? The answer is hardly any.
The trick to finding the shoes you need or want for the price you can afford is simple: be picky. By all means take a stroll on the high street and try on as many shoes as you need to in order to gauge size and comfort, but remember not to be fooled into buying them then and there. The internet is waiting, and at the moment it’s far more attractive then the high street.
